Types of VAT Registration in the United Arab Emirates

A) VAT Registration Is Required

If your company falls into one of the following categories, you must file.

  • If the business’s taxable supplies exceed the required registration threshold for a 12-month period, or
  • In addition, the company plans to make taxable supplies worth more than the required registration threshold in the next 30 days, or
  • AED 375,000 is the required registration threshold number.

B) Registration for VAT on a voluntary basis

Any business that does not meet the required registration requirements but falls into one of the following categories can register voluntarily:

  • Their taxable supplies or taxable expenditures were worth more than the voluntary registration threshold in the previous 12-month span.
  • The company expects their taxable supplies or taxable expenditures to be worth more than the voluntary registration threshold in the next 30 days.
  • The voluntary registration threshold is set at AED 187,500.
